Day 10

We did a big day today, just under 28 miles. Maybe a little less tomorrow?

We found a wonderful country hotel in Abanallis. The Rincón de Antón. The normal restaurant hours opened at 8:30. We were very hungry, they opened the kitchen early for us and we had a wonderful meal. Clara as hostess took excellent care of us, with cooking by her mother, Nanny. Keith also had a nice visit with Clara’s father Tarno!

I mentioned that we spent last night (Saturday night) in an old convent. The rooms are converted nun cells.  There are still some rules for such a place. The door was locked when we returned from our dinner with Gabor and Katherine at 10:15! We panicked for a bit, then found a way to reach the host and get in. Whew!

City street is Santillana Del Mar where we spend Saturday night. A historic town.

This is the first golf course we have seen.

We mentioned cow bells in an earlier post. We finally got a picture of one.

We see a lot of bathtubs. I mean several per day, usually in pairs. Here is an example. Old tubs are being used for animal feed and water.

We saw several lemon trees today, usually with large lemons on them.

Pilgrim memorial along our route today.

El toro. I was wearing a red shirt today, but no issues with the bull.

We have seen several trees with these large blossoms in various colors, fragrant too!

Another type of flowering tree

This is Lisa. I found my restaurant today. I’m a saucy girl and love lots of sauce on my food!

Hi Flowering cactus

After dinner digestive, called Orujo. A nice finish to a lovely meal. The food was beautiful and delicious. We were too hungry to take pictures when it was served.

In Spain a salad has lettuce, tomato, carrots, roasted red peppers, carmalized onion, and tuna belly. Delicious!

  3. I’m tired reading this and all I did was paddle Flanagan. The bunk bed set up was shi shi compared to some albergues. The experiences magnificent. Oh to be a bird and fly along with you. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s post. LB
