Day 7
Today we ended in Santoña, after walking about 24 miles, and climbing 2,900 feet.
Early today we passed our 25% point!
The cut is called chuleta, which means chop. Lisa found that this is normally a ribeye cut from an 8 to 16 year old dairy cow. They sear the outside quickly so the meat is still raw. It is served with a hot brick, so each person dining can put a piece on the hot brick and cook it a bit more, then enjoy. It was delicious!
We started and ended in cities again today, but there was more scenery in between, and we met more pilgrims on the journey. We saw Jamie and Bastian from France again. Met some from men from Belgium, and one man from Netherlands. We met a young couple from France, and Johannes from Germany. We walked for a while with Ulysses from Italy, and had a nice visit with him.
This looked like the cemetery had individual family mausoleums.
At second breakfast, Lisa ordered really well, Keith tried something, pig ear… and it was not to my taste.
Lisa’s pulpo, (octopus) marinated with peppers and onions

Keith’s pig ear, in some kind of sauce.
The winky wonky kitty became Lisa’s friend. It had a sweet meow and enjoyed more of the pig ear than Keith did. (If you don’t get this look for a kids book called the winky wonky donkey)

Berries which were blue in color
It is common for people to bring a rock or feather
from their home and leave it along the way at a shrine to symbolize leaving a burden on The Way. This was the first one we have seen.
After about 24 miles walking we had a short ferry ride across to our ending point today. We visited with 2 couples from Holland on the boat ride; they are doing just a few days of the Camino. They are about our age, hope we see them again tomorrow.

The scenery is beautiful! So glad you are taking lots of pictures! I find myself wishing I was on this journey! Except for some of the food🤣.. looks like good weather too.. wondering how warm it is there..D and L
ReplyDeleteTwo things ... it's my understanding that if you eat enough of those pig's ears, you start to like the taste. And, a question ... is that Keith swimming in the lake?
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful places and so many memories you are making. That beef dinner sounds interesting, glad it was yummy.
ReplyDeleteMy dad would eat pigs feet! I could not eat them! D and L
ReplyDeleteWhat views! Attaboy trying something exotic Keith! I’m, you had me at Octopus!
ReplyDeleteDidn’t that ferry ride feel great after all those miles? I recall the joy to ride in a car when my pilgrimage was over. So many g rand views. Keep the pics coming. Sleep big. You and the road have a date. Night night from the big O.
