Day 12 - over half way to Santiago!

Much better day today. We did 22 miles with 1857 feet of elevation. Less busy roads, great scenery, and we walked with another couple for about 3 hours. We had followed this couple for a couple miles, then an older lady stopped them and we caught up. She told us we were on the wrong road and had us cut through her garden and meadow/prairie to reach the right path. See the picture of Lore and Steven below.

We saw these fun decorated guys this morning, all part of the same property’s fence.

This tree, probably a eucalyptus has leaves growing at the top, and flags flying too. This has to be the tallest flag pole I have ever seen!

Very narrow beach. We saw a few like this today.

Bigger beach with lots of seagulls

Cool rock island reaching into the Bay of Biscay

Sometime today we passed the half way point to Santiago. We are marking this photo as the half way point.

We saw a small pasture with 5 or so small goats. This one was curious about us, and also started coughing. When it coughed it’s back legs came off the ground.

Lisa- This “my little pony” needs someone to comb her mane and put it in a top knot๐Ÿ˜†. She didn’t seem to mind though.

Intricate wrought iron fence. Each panel was unique.

We see a lot of big round bales, all wrapped in plastic, so I think a type of silage. The smell is like silage. Here there are a bunch of black ones and one bright pink!
Lisa- The pink one dares to be different and fun. I’m indentifying with it๐Ÿ˜‰

This little nativity scene along the road.

Here the mountains are just a mile or two from the sea here.

We had fun visiting with this couple, Steven and Lore from Belgium. They have been walking for 3 months, all through Belgium and France to reach Spain. They are mostly camping out, so a much different experience than our own. They did not carry smart phones, only have a small flip phone to stay in touch with family and for emergencies plus a gps!

Lisa-We see many dumpsters. The trash system isn’t like what we have in America, where you set your trash cans out once a week. The dumpsters are out all the time. Some happy person painted this one and added an arrow to mark the way of the Camino.

This rock art was right by the trash container, most or all is pilgrim themed.

There’s a bike route for the path too!

More rock art

Lisa- This is the sunscreen we are using. I highly recommend it! After researching sunscreens, I decided on a gel type, because it is less sticky. Bull frog has great reviews on Amazon. It stays on through sweating and swimming and is approved by many gingers (red heads)

We were craving vegetables, and dinner tonight included grilled vegetables! The view during dinner was the ocean, about 100 yards away.

Lisa-grilled veggie salad

Lisa-steak with more veggies(because I always crave veggies). Keith chose fries with his. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lisa- Flan with whipped cream.
