Day 14

The hotel we stayed at last night included a very nice breakfast, so we started a little later after eating there. We were on the road just after 8:00, it was not raining, though surfaces were wet from rain overnight.

As we left the city of Villaviciosa, nothing much was open so no chance to buy any fruit for later in the day. We walked for about 10 miles and reached what we thought would be a cafe, but their kitchen was not open yet, so we bought a Coke zero and a Coke, and had one of our backup bars for a mini meal.

As we left that village we must have made a wrong turn somewhere. After about a half mile we realized there was a problem as there was a road construction crew blocking the whole road. As we stood and looked at our maps, and considerd what to do, the foreman waved us, encouraging us to come forward through a narrow passage beside the machine. As we approached he had the machine stop so we could walk past!

This region of Spain has a lot of apple trees. There is drink called Sidra (cider) that is popular here. It is poured from high to the side of the glass to create bubbles. It is drunk quickly and the last little bit in the glass is dumped out. We tried a small sample, but weren’t impressed. It was quite vinegary. Apple art along our way.

We climbed this hill today. There is a small white house in the middle of the picture. At the top of the hill, we had covered just over 1000 feet in 1.3 miles.

This is looking down the lane of the small white house when we reached that point of our climb

The succulents are so amazing here!

  3. Looking at the futuristic route and I note the turn inward. Will you stay coastal? Such great temps you’ve had. Severe drought here. Farmers that have irrigation have been at it since June. Have you enjoyed any oranges?

  4. Wow Keith & Lisa! I finally got on your blog and you are already past the halfway mark! You are doing such a great job of documenting each day. I love Spain but, we never were in that part of the country. It was fun catching up tonight and I will look forward to checking in each day. I LOVE the pictures! ~Deb Dick
