Day 18

We are making good time! Our original plan was to reach Ribadeo by this coming Wednesday, and we are now 7 1/2 miles short of that on Monday, will pass through and should officially be 2 days ahead of schedule tomorrow night.

Today we walked a bit further, right at 26 miles. This put us over the 400 mile mark at 407 so far. The last 8 miles we did at a faster pace so that we could reach the destination city before the restaurants close for lunch at 4:30. We made it by 4:00 and had a nice seafood dinner! Restaurants serve lunch from about 1:00 until 4:30, then close until about 8:30 or 9:00.

Walked a little while with Lucas from Barcelona, he is 19 and walking from Gijón to Santiago by himself.

As we arrived in Tapia de Casariego, we almost literally ran into Torren and Angelica, we will try to connect with them again in an upcoming stop.

Lisa-Beautiful sunrise to start our day. We wear lights on our hats to be seen until it it is light enough to take them off.

Lisa- I like the corn field on the plain and the hills in the background.

I remember hearing a song as a child about “Iowa that’s where the tall corn grows”. This is good and tall in Spain too!

Lisa-We have seen these old wash houses by streams the last few days. They are no longer in use, but fun to see the history.

Lisa- The stream runs through the center of the building and there are slanted surfaces for scrubbing clothes.

Lisa-The town Navia had these square pruned trees lining some of the streets.

We’re at the ocean for one more day before we turn inland to Santiago

Lisa-It was a difficult day finding food and I got a little hangry (hungry and angry). Let’s just say that marital bliss wasn’t how we could describe a few hours of the  day. But, our late lunch/dinner quelled the dissension. My dish was octopus salad. It was very much like ceviche and so very delicious!

Lisa- Keith had the bacalao pil pil. Salt cod sautéed in olive oil with potatoes.

Lisa- Brownie with ice cream and caramel sauce for dessert.

Lisa-We are in bed munching on Cheetos and chips before 9pm, ready to sleep for an early start tomorrow. All is good after a somewhat difficult day😊
